  • Digital TV FAQ

    • Is there traditional TV service using a cable cord to connect?
      • Yes, traditional cable TV is available in Ball Hall, University Tower, the Riverwalk Apartments and Townhomes.
    • If I am using traditional TV with a cable cord, what type of TV do I need to have?
      • The TV signals are digital and can be accessed using a QAM tuner. When you are looking at TVs, check the TV documentation thoroughly to ensure your TV has a QAM tuner. It is important to check that the TV you are bringing to campus has the proper tuner as not all TVs, including new TVs, have a QAM tuner.
    • My TV does not work, what do I do?
      • Verify that your TV is properly connected to the cable jack in your room using a coaxial cable.
      • Verify that your TV has a QAM tuner. Some TV brands have tuners that require activation.
      • If your TV has a QAM tuner:
        • Review your TV manual for instructions on using the QAM tuner. Following those instructions, rescan the channels.
        • If your manual does not provide enough detail to make the QAM tuner operational, contact your TV manufacturer for assistance.
        • Some TV brands require the QAM tuner to be activated or enabled. Refer to your owner’s manual or contact the TV manufacturer for assistance.
      • If your TV does not have a QAM tuner:
        • If you recently purchased the TV, you may want to consider returning or exchanging the TV with a model or brand that has the necessary QAM tuner.
        • You can use the IPTV service to watch on compatible mobile devices, stream to your computer and connect your TV as a second monitor for a bigger screen for TV, or access over the air channels using an antenna.
    • I am calling my TV manufacturer for assistance, what do I ask?
      • Does this TV have a QAM tuner?
      • How do I setup my TV to tune channels using the QAM tuner?
      • Do I need an activation code or is there anything special I need to do to make my QAM tuner work?
      • How do I set my TV to scan for channels with the QAM tuner?

  • TV Setup Instructions

TVs using the traditional TV service over cable lines in Ball Residence, University Tower, and the Riverwalk Apartments and Townhomes require a QAM tuner. If your TV has a QAM tuner, please follow these steps after connecting your tv to the cable jack to configure your TV:

    1. Make sure your TV is set up to receive Cable TV. (Every TV can be set up to receive from either an antenna or from a cable system.)
    2. The setting for antenna is usually named either ANTENNA or AIR. (If your TV is configured for this setting it will only receive the local off-air broadcast channels.) To receive IUPUI's cable channels, the correct TV setting is CABLE or CATV (or similar terminology).

Links to channel scanning procedures for the major TV brands can be found at the bottom of the IUPUI TV Services page http://tv.iupui.edu

  • TV Service Issues/Repair Request

Before reporting any TV-related issues, be certain your television is properly configured for the IUPUI campus TV system (visit http://tv.iupui.edu for instructions).  If your neighbors are not experiencing the same TV issue as you are, it is likely your television is not properly tuned or that your TV does not have the required QAM tuner. (See Digital TV FAQ above for more information.)

If you have tried to configure your TV and confirmed with your manufacturer that your TV has a QAM tuner but you are still experiencing issues, please complete the form below. Only the following types of TV issues should be reported:

    1. TV wall jack that is physically damaged
    2. Channels that you could tune previously that no longer come in (please try re-programming your TV before reporting this issue)
    3. Channels that only display the television service provider logo
    4. Complete television service outages
