University Guest Housing
The IUPUI guest apartments are available for anyone visiting the University, with a direct affiliation with the university, who needs accommodations for a short-term stay. The guest apartments are located within our Riverwalk Apartment Community on the west end of the IUPUI campus. The apartments offer easy access to campus buildings as well as IU Health Hospitals and attractions around downtown Indianapolis.
Guest Apartments are not available for rental from August through October 2017.
Information and Policies
Who Is Eligible?
Anyone who is directly affiliated with the university and is sponsored by a department may request a guest apartment. Examples include visiting professors, lecturers, students, or professionals coming for short-term internships or classes, as well as new staff looking for accommodations while they find long-term housing.
The following amenities are included in each guest apartment:
- Bedroom: Full-size bed with linens, dresser, desk and chair, and alarm clock
- Bathroom: Towel set (one per guest) and shower curtain
- Living room: Sofa and chair, coffee table, end table, dining table and chairs, and television
- Kitchen: Dishware set, cookware set, coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, stove/oven, dishwasher, and washer and dryer
- Other amenities: Soap, bathroom tissue, paper towels, laundry detergent and softener, dishwasher and dish soap. These amenities are provided for the initial stay but are not refilled. It is the guest's responsibility to replace these amenities once gone during their stay.
Check-ins for the guest apartments may take place only at the Housing and Residence Life Office; therefore, weekend or evening check-ins are not available. Check-in times are Monday–Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except major holidays or office closings. If guests cannot check-in themselves during the listed timeframe the sponsoring department can arrange to pick up keys in advance.
Minimum Stay and Black Out Dates
There is a minimum stay requirement of 3 nights. Due to the demand for on-campus student housing, the guest apartments are not available for rental from August through October each year. Exact dates of availability vary each year depending on student occupancy.
Other Items to Remember
Parking: Guests are responsible for obtaining their own parking permit if they will bringing a car to campus. Free public parking is located on Porto Alegre Street. Any lots or spaces marked with CH or other university designations require a permit. IUPUI Housing and Residence Life is not responsible for tickets or towing associated with guest cars parked in university spaces. Guests are encouraged to visit the IUPUI Parking Services website to help determine their parking needs http://www.parking.iupui.edu.
Computer: Guests need to provide their own computer or laptop. Wi-Fi is available free of charge.
Rates and Payment Information
IUPUI guest apartments are charged on a tiered, nightly rate. All stays are subject to Indiana State Sales & Use Tax (7%) and Innkeeper’s Tax for Overnight Lodging (10%), which is not included in the below rates. Individuals staying for at least 30 nights are generally not taxable.
- 3-7 nights: $70 per night
- 8-14 nights: $65 per night
- 15-21 nights: $60 per night
- 22-29 nights: $55 per night
- 30-31 nights: $1600 flat rate
Guest pays: Payments are made directly to the IUPUI Housing and Residence Life Office at check-in. The only forms of payment accepted are check, money order, or traveler's checks for the exact reservation amount. Our office cannot accept cash or credit card payments for short-term rentals.
Department pays: No prepayment/deposit is required. Entire balance of reserved accommodation will be billed to an Indiana University account through interdepartmental billing. Department sponsoring assumes responsibility for tax reporting and notification to the guest if this paid accommodation could be considered taxable to the guest.

The guest apartment coordinator will review requests and respond within two business days. Request forms should be submitted at least one week prior to requested dates.
