Housing Notice - March 23, 2020
To our residents who were scheduled to move out of your on-campus space between March 25 and April 6,
Due to the recent request made by Governor Holcomb, we are cancelling all scheduled move out appointments for March 25 through April 6 and students will not be permitted into the buildings to remove any items during this time. We have updated the scheduling link (included in the email we sent to your university account) to extend move out options through April 30. Also note that package and mail pick-up are also closed during this timeframe. If you have essential items such as laptops, textbooks, or medication, please email our office at reslife@iupui.edu with a list of the specific items so our office can work with you on options.
It is important for the health and safety of our community, and for one-another, to ensure this stay-at-home order is followed. In the interests of everyone’s safety, anyone who shows up to move items out of the building will not be granted access.
We appreciate your understanding and patience through this ever-changing situation.
Housing Notice - March 16, 2020
In response to the message from President McRobbie to Indiana University students on all campuses to move to online learning for the remainder of the semester, we know that this is a difficult and challenging time for all of us and we will do our best to assist you during this process.
Please see IUPUI HRL guidance for our residential students:
Move Out Procedure also outlined in this video
If you have already left Indianapolis and/or Campus Housing, go or stay home. Do Not return to Indianapolis and/or Campus Housing. Please do not return to Indianapolis and/or Campus Housing at this time if you have another place to live for the remainder of the semester.
If you are still on campus and can do so, please return to your permanent home.
If you have no place to go, file a petition to stay.
If you do not have a permanent residence outside of your residence hall, or cannot return to your home country, and need to petition to stay on campus during the shift to remote learning, please complete the survey included in your email notification.
If you need items left in the Residence Halls that are Essential, please send an email to reslife@iupui.edu. Essential items include medically-necessary items and items needed to complete course work, like books and computers. We will work with you to develop plan for you to retrieve these items.
Retrieving personal possessions from your Residence Halls: After March 20, we will contact you via email and provide information on how to make an appointment to pick up personal possessions. You do not need to rush to get nonessential items. They may remain in your residence hall until you can pick them up.
Making appointments to retrieve nonessential personal items will enable our residential life professionals to ensure both an orderly process and a process that enables social distancing in the interest of public health. Please honor the process. Please remember how challenging this is for our residential life and student life professionals, who were looking forward to working with all of you during the remainder of the spring semester, and be kind.
Room and meal plan account adjustments
IU is acutely aware that students and families have already paid for room and board that they will not be able to use. Right now, the University is working hard on helping our faculty and students transition to remote learning so they can successfully complete their semester. Adjustments for room and meal plans will take into consideration financial aid guidelines. Therefore, any information regarding possible adjustments to room and meal plan accounts will be forthcoming from Indiana University officials.
Also, please understand that no decisions about reimbursement will turn on when and whether you have retrieved your things from the residence halls; in other words, if you can manage to leave your personal items on campus for the next few months, that will not impact your reimbursement.
We do appreciate you living with us year and recognize the difficulty that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused for all of us. We wish you the best as you finish your coursework online for this semester.
Sincerely,
HRL
